Welcome to Wessex Riding Club
Wessex riding club was established in 1963 and is affiliated to the British Horse Society. We are a small, friendly club of approximately 50 members who range from first time horse owners through to those who are affiliated in various disciplines.
Desperately seeking........ the return of the Wessex trophies. If you are in possession of any past trophies can you please return them to a committee member. Thank you
Events are generally held around the Clevedon, Claverham and Axbridge areas in the South-West of England and our aim is to provide a friendly and relaxed environment where riders at all levels can improve their riding skills and try different equestrian activities.
What do we do?
Flatwork Sessions
We regularly invite local instructors to introduce our members to different riding
methods and schooling techniques. This can include introductions to half passes etc,
very much on a come and have a go basis.
Show Jumping and Cross Country
For members who enjoy jumping we provide a variety of clinics including gridwork,
gymnastic jumping and course jumping. Both our novice and more experienced riders
are catered for as we hold group sessions ranging from first time jumpers to 3'3".
For those members who enjoy the exhilaration of riding across country we regularly hold schooling sessions,
regular venues include Badgworth and Stockland Lovell .
Competitions and opportunities within the club
The Wessex series is our yearly Dressage and showjumping competition. See the tab for details. We also have a trophy for the most improved rider in the club.
As an affiliated club we are eligible to enter teams at area events. This gives members the opportunity to compete against other affiliated clubs in the South West. In recent years we have entered teams for indoor show jumping, riding club tests, novice dressage and horse trials.
What else do we do?
Talks and lecture demonstrations are regular features within our quarterly programmes. Favourite topics in the past have included lunging, riding side saddle (with an opportunity to have a go), physiotherapy, the Alexander technique, eventing, dental and veterinary talks and many more.
Our most popular non riding event is the Christmas party which gives us a good excuse to dress up, enjoy a meal, sink plenty of wine and dance the night away! We also have an annual Christmas festive Ride with mulled wine and mince pies.
